EVENT:

The theme "Northern Crossroads" for our upcoming group exhibition encapsulates the convergence of diverse cultural, artistic, and geographical influences that define the unique artistic landscape of the northern regions. This theme invites artists to explore intersections where various paths meet—whether through the melding of traditional and contemporary styles, the fusion of local and international perspectives, or the dialogue between nature and urban life.

Artists are encouraged to interpret "Northern Crossroads" in ways that reflect their personal journeys and experiences, highlighting how their work bridges different worlds and fosters new connections. This theme serves as an open invitation for participants to delve into the rich tapestry of narratives and identities that thrive at these crossroads, ultimately enriching the collective understanding of what it means to create art in this dynamic and multifaceted region.

This event is organised in partnership with Nordic Culture Point and Artmu.

MAKING A LIVING AS AN ARTIST - Challenges Opportunities, and New Perspectives

Making a living as an Artist – Challenges, Opportunities, and New Perspectives
On August 20th, we welcome everyone to join us for a panel discussion exploring the challenges and opportunities faced by artists who have moved to Finland.

The goal of the evening is also to provide valuable perspectives and practical advice for artists at various stages of their careers, from students to established professionals.
What are the strategies for building a network and gaining visibility? Is it possible to balance commercial and personal projects? Should artists aim for financial stability and growth?
Participating in the discussion are Wen Ouyang, founder of Artmu, visual artist Tania Crossingham, and H Ouramo, principal of the Art School Maa. The discussion is moderated by Emma Clear from Globe Art Point.

Don't miss this opportunity to be inspired, network, and get to know the local art scene. We look forward to meeting you at the Nordic Culture Point’s library at Kaisaniemenkatu 9.
We serve coffee and tea. No registration is required.
The event is organized in collaboration with Nordic Culture Point, HIAA – Helsinki International Artist Association and Globe Art Point. You are also welcome to visit HIAA’s exhibition Nordic Crossroads at Nordic Culture Point’s venue B28 on Suomenlinna island 23.8 – 31.8.2024.

Familiarize yourself with the island’s accessibility on the Suomenlinna website. This map shows a more accessible route. Nordic Culture Point is at number 33 (this is not the same as the B28 address).

HSL operates ferries from Salutorget in Helsinki to Suomenlinna. The shortest route from the quay to Nordic Culture Point’s premises is 900 metres. In the summer, FRS tourist boats also operate from Salutorget to Susisaari in Suomenlinna.

The numbers of the buildings in Suomenlinna include a letter (according to the island) and the building number. Nordic Culture Point is located on Susisaari (the letter B in the address system). B28 is a long, light-red single-storey building.'
